oprah goes vegan

We applaud the efforts of Oprah Winfrey who recently completed a 21 day vegan cleanse.

Influenced by best selling author and spiritual counselor Kathy Freston, who suggests trying a 21-day cleanse as a way to jump-start an inner makeover, Oprah decided to give it a try! The plan eliminates caffeine, sugar, alcohol, gluten and animal products from your diet for up to 21 days.

It was fascinating to read along as Oprah blogged for three weeks about the highs and lows of her experience. She also posted the vegan meal plan provided by Chef Tal Ronnen.

Dr. Michael Beckwith is one of the featured guests in the internationally acclaimed movie, The Secret. He delivers some of the most inspirational messages in a film that is brimming with inspiration. We were honored to meet Dr. Beckwith and his wife Rickie at our restaurant on their last trip to Hawaii.

In 1986, he founded the Agape International Spiritual Center, a trans-denominational community whose doors are open to all seekers in search of personal transformation and selfless service to humankind.

Dr. Beckwith’s achievement as a humanitarian and emissary of peace have been widely acclaimed. In 2003, his activities were enumerated when he was written into the Congressional Record of the 107th congress. He is the recipient of numerous humanitarian awards, some of which include: The 2004 Africa Peace Award, Thomas Kilgore Prophetic Witness Award and the Humanitarian Award of the National Conference for Compassion and Justice.

Thousands gather weekly to receive inspiration from Dr. Beckwith at the Agape Center in Culver City, California. Together, Drs. Michael Beckwith and Rickie Byars Beckwith have written lyrics and music performed in concert venues worldwide. They share their lives with their four adult children and six grandchildren.

VEGAN FUSION HEALTHY RECIPES

All are invited to our next vegan potluck sponsored by the Vegetarian Society of Hawaii. Our speaker this month is Chef Vi Herbert who will give an Indian food cooking demonstration. Samples will be provided to all.

A Kaua'i resident, Vi is originally from Tamilnadu, in southern India. She teaches vegetarian Indian cooking and gives all the proceeds to a poor rural area school in India that her non-profit organization, Kolam Charitable Foundation, Inc. Her monthly classes in Kilauea teach people to make authentic Indian cuisine.

The Vegetarian Society of Hawaii is a not-for-profit volunteer organization founded in 1990 to promote human health, animal rights, and protection of the environment by means of vegetarian education. This delicious recipe recreates the Italian favorite in an innovative and raw way. The ravioli 'noodles' are made with thinly sliced turnips. The cheese filling is macadamia nut based. Both are perfectly complimented by the sun dried tomato sage.
